Green ideas holiday

Green travel is respect for the people in the local environment, it is giving back to the local economy and respecting people in the local environment wherever you go. It is also more than just environment, traveling Green is a way of saying "Help us in the registration or the mother earth", being responsible for making the right choices and help each other, even if it is gradually it is building a community and a future better.

Search for hotels with a "green score". While some hotels may not contain a single sheet, keep in mind that even a journal is a step in the right direction. It is important to support the efforts of Greens that takes each hotel because it shows they do good management, and it encourages more expansion of green programs. Here are a few very simple you can take to help your stay green even steps if you do not book with a green scored hotel.Encourage the hotel that you have chosen to go green or to thank for green programs that they participent.Par all means, if your hotel has a sheets and towels reuse program, use it and make your own toiletries, if you one of those open hotel supplies, win the unused and then of course portion recycle.

Green roofs in Rotterdam: studies, plans, supportive and flood risk reduction

Rotterdam Initiative to promote the creation of green roofs in the city has seen only 10% of roofs suitable for this converted into green rooftops. The project is part of the Rotterdam Climate Initiative, run by the Rotterdam City Council, port authority and the environmental protection agency with the objective of reducing CO2 emissions by 50% of the city and helping the city adapt to climate change.

Despite large areas of green roofs have many benefits for the cities, such as reducing air pollution and help combat the heat Island effect, Rotterdam was priority to water retention, since the city has a shortage of areas where the water can be stored following rainfall. water management has always been a major concern of the Netherlands, since around 60% of the country lies below sea level. The analysis of the potential of green roofs in Rotterdam that preceded the introduction of grants strongly focused on its ability to store water reduce the discharge of water peak after a rain storm and help prevent flooding.

To promote the installation of green roofs, an "enquiry point ' has been established under the roof (green) of a prominent building in the Centre of Rotterdam and the initiative is being promoted at festivals and community events throughout the city.Green roofs were installed in a number of municipal buildings, including the local hospital, library and the City Government. Subsidies are provided for building owners, the Town Hall and the local water board to the tune of EUR 30 per square foot, where the average cost of installing a green roof is about 45 euros per metre. demand has been high and in March this year the minimum size of the roof that could benefit from a grant was reduced from 40 m2 for 10 m2.

Although the climate initiative Rotterdam highlights the many benefits to building owners have a green roof, as better isolation and an extension to the lifetime of the roof, the greatest benefits to the city as a whole is the reduced risk of flood. this initiative should be pursued in scale to have a measurable impact on water retention, something that the city of Rotterdam, and the water will follow over the next two years, along with the Technical University of Delft and Hogeschool Rotterdam (University).

This week I'm blogging from the Clinton Global Initiative 2010 Annual Meeting. I hope to post at least one daily recap a day. Here is a short post of life behind the scenes in the Press Room. For links to all my CGI coverage click here.

In addition to hearing from and being around so many world leaders and activists, it's been a fun learning experience for me to simply attend this kind of big official meeting as "press" - it's my first time sitting in a 'press room' with a bunch of other bloggers and journalists!

As I'm sure you can imagine, security is tight; laptops and bags are checked at entry, and we've all got to pass through a metal detector. Additionally, if we want to walk anywhere in the venue we must have a CGI staff "escort"; it's all very labor intensive and I appreciate the work the staff and volunteers are doing to herd us around.

I've met some great folks in the press room and put some faces to names, and thought I'd share a few links to other blogs that are covering the CGI meetings, in case you're interested in further commentary on the events: Brian Mitchell at Treehugger is blogging daily about the environmental news and commitments coming out of CGI. Yesterday he covered President Clinton's remarks about the links between climate change and natural disasters, the potential of landfills, and Secretary Clinton's new global alliance for clean cook stoves.
Brad Johnson at Think Progress was also at the blogger meeting with President Clinton on Monday night and has a good summary of the ideas Clinton shared with us for promoting a clean energy future in the United States up on his blog at The Wonk Room.
Our friends at Tonic are liveblogging daily.
The new foreign policy focused media outlet HUM News is blogging about the sessions and interviewing members.
Twitter users can follow the commentary by searching for the hash tag #cgi2010.
